HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU TOOOO!!!!!

Yesterday afternoon I went shopping at Wegmans. If you are not familiar with Wegmans, it's like the greatest grocery store EVER. Not only is it a beautiful store with such ambiance, they have very competitive pricing (and their store brands are pretty good as well). Anyway, I digress.

I was at Wegmans. I strategically picked 12:15 pm to hit the store because I was sure it wouldn't be as crowded. If you know Wegmans, you know they are ALWAYS crowded. My reasoning was all the house fraus would be finishing up their shopping and hurrying home to get their kids off the bus. I could zip in and zip out and get my kids too.

Well I zipped in and got everything ok but while I was waiting in line THAT'S WHEN IT HAPPENED. I was about 2 deep in the checkout line. Next to my line, was a lady I'll call Buffy (and not because she looked like a vampire slayer). I'm calling her Buffy because she had her hair impeccably pulled back in a pony-tail with a beautiful checkered ribbon that matched her cute mini-skirt dress which also matched her adorable designer handbag that looked like it cost thousands of dollars (SIDE NOTE: WHO DRESSES LIKE THIS TO GO GROCERY SHOPPING????).

Anyway, she leaves her cart in the checkout line while she takes off to do more shopping. I would say about 10 minutes after she left her cart (AND IT HAD BECOME HER TIME TO LOAD HER GROCERIES), the lady behind her in line moved her cart to the side to start loading her own groceries up on the belt. Seems logical to me, right?  After the lady had loaded probably 3/4 of her cart on the belt, low and behold here comes Buffy in a huffy. She DEMANDED that the lady remove her groceries from the belt so she could get back her space in line. The lady explained that she waited a minute or two (it was like 10 minutes but anyway) and then went ahead because she was holding up the line. Buffy went off and when I say off, I mean completely bat-shit crazy off. She started stomping her feet like a two year old and yelling obscenities. Then when the other lady tried to calmly explain the situation, she started throwing the groceries on the belt back into the lady's cart. Did I mention the other lady was about 75 years old and as sweet as pie? I couldn't have been more disappointed in human-kind. First, how dare ANYONE think they can talk to ANYONE with such disrespect.   Secondly, to have ANYONE talk to an elder like that is shameful. Finally, how cowardly of me not to step in and tell Buffy where to put her groceries.

The situation ended with Buffy throwing all the lady's groceries back in her cart (and remember -- she was 3/4 of the way done unloading) and physically pushing the lady's cart away from the checkout line.  As the lady moved down to another checkout line, Buffy yelled out "Happy Thanksgiving you old lady".

I'm ashamed of not only Buffy but myself. I should have done something.  I have no clue what I should have done but I should have done something.  NO ONE DESERVES TO BE DISRESPECTED LIKE THAT ON ANY LEVEL.

Willy says he would have definitely stepped in if he had been there.  He YET AGAIN said I'm always stuck inside my bubble.  My philosophy has always been if it doesn't happen in my BUBBLE, don't get involved.

You know, I always tell my kids to be kind to everyone and everyone will be kind to them.  Maybe I should start telling adults the same thing.
It was a sad moment for me.

Unbelievable. I can't believe she was that rude! I don't know if I would have done anything either. I would like to think I would but sometimes it really is hard to step into something like that. I know what you mean about Wegman's though. I love the store but it is always so crowded. I have actually been caught in cart grid-lock in the produce section during the holidays! Happy Thanksgiving!

That's terrible! What a spoiled brat! I'm not sure what I would have done. Sometimes we just get caught up in the shock of the situation and don't have a clue what to do because we can't believe what's happening in front of us. I'm pretty good about confronting people, but I probably would have frozen!
