Toffee Bars

I've been making these toffee bars for over 12 years now.  I got this recipe from a dear friend at work and have incorporated them into my assorted cookie gift baskets I give out each Christmas to neighbors and friends.  They are delicious and SUPER easy.

TOFFEE BARS
Recipe from Thattoddlertown.blogspot.com

1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1-4 oz milk chocolate candy bar
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350

Mix brown sugar, margarine, egg yolk and vanilla.  Stir in flour and salt.  Press in greased 13 x 9 pan.

Bake until very light brown, 25 to 30 minutes (crust will be soft).  As soon as crust comes out of the oven, place pieces of the chocolate on the crust; let stand until soft, then spread evenly.  Sprinkle with nuts.  Cut into bars, about 2 x 1 1/2 inches, while warm.

Makes 32 cookies.
