DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER - PANTRY DISASTER ZONE

There are SO many projects (big and small) that need to get done around our house that it's almost too overwhelming.  It really is hard for us to get anything done with 4 needy children around and frankly if we do have extra time on our hands you can normally catch us napping.  Not to mention we both would REALLY rather be enjoying time with our children then cleaning out the garage or painting a fence.  So, with that said, a lot of items on the honey-do list go undone.

But since we finished our front door project and we are in a holding pattern on the sunroom and boys room, I am turning my attention to the dreaded PANTRY.  That's right -- it's time for a PANTRY MAKEOVER!!!

Here are a few BEFORE shots:

Please don't tell anyone what you're about to see

This is like a picture you should only share with your hairdresser

Yes - I know we don't eat right

I checked around the blog world and found some AWESOME inspiration.  I stumbled across Decor Chick and fell in love with her transformation.  She went from this:

Looks like mine, right?

to this:

Absolutely love the wreath in the pantry idea

I also found this at Domestic Imperfection:

Definitely in my ballpark, right?

to this:

Stenciling might be too much for me
to accomplish but I absolutely love the idea

So off to the store for supplies.  First stop -- Wal-mart.  I found some great deals on plastic canisters.   As much as I love and want glass canisters, it's just NOT going to happen at this juncture in life.  Too many little hands around.   I liked the look of these Better Homes and Gardens Flip-Tite storage pieces.

Walmart didn't have the complete set in stock but their individual pieces were on sale for a ridiculous price.  Each piece was $3.97.  So I bought enough to hold my flour, sugar, brown sugar, and some snacks.    Spent about $22.00.

Then it was off to Target.  I found a few items there but nothing on sale so I headed to K-Mart.  I'm not a big K-Mart shopper.  The store near us is very old and usually very messy.  Not a big fan of that combination.  HOWEVER, I found these cereal containers that I think are perfect.  I picked up 4 for $7.28 a piece.

So now I think I'm set.  Back to the house to begin the pantry makeover.  First things first, I had to empty the entire pantry.  What a mess!!!   Then I seized the opportunity to clean the shelves and get rid of a lot of stuff.  I did a couple of piles.  One for trash and one for donations.  Shaunna had a great idea over at her blog Perfectly Imperfect to donate any unused food to a local food bank.

After the piles were all complete, I began to organize and return everything to the pantry.  I put all the cereal into my new seal'n saver containers.  LOVE IT!!!  Then I put all my sugars, flour, and some snacks in their new containers.  LOVE IT!!!!  I also used some old rubbermaid containers that I had lying around and made containers for our potato chips, pretzels, and tortilla chips.  LOVE IT!!!!

Here are a few AFTER shots:

oooohhhh
So pretty, right?

Love that everything is off the floor

Here is what I love about the look.  First, everything is off the floor.  It just looks cleaner.  Two, everything is organized and I can see it.  And three, our cereals and snacks will stay fresher (hopefully).

Let me know what you think.  I'm still on the lookout for a cute wreath or something to go above the top self.  I loved that idea from Decor Chick.  Don't forget to stop by Decor Chick and Domestic Imperfection if you have the time.  They inspired me to do this project and have tons of other great ideas.

Enjoy the rest of your day and remember to ALWAYS count your blessings!

Your pantry is looking great! I bet you just love looking in there and seeing organization instead of chaos. I know I do! I feel like I waste so much less food now that I can see everything - plus it's all in sealer canisters so it lasts longer.

Thanks so much for the linky love!

Super fabulous idea. Looking sooo great. I may TRY and use this idea when our kitchen remodel is close to completion. We will have a pocket pantry door so I might have to modify it! GREAT!

Your pantry looks wonderful! I love plastic containers--especially when they are "modular" and designed to stack well in different configurations.
I may need to remind my husband that our pantry desperately needs rebuilt. :-)
